Why Ukraine is becoming the first choice for Indian Students to Study MBBS?

Ukraine is now in a challenging situation. There has been an ongoing war from the last 5 years at the Donbas. The War is an armed conflict in the Donbas region of Ukraine. However, that does not stop Indian students from choosing a medical college in Ukraine. Globally, Ukraine is one of the most preferred destinations for medical education. Over 70 countries of students come to Ukraine every year to study medicine. Ukraine’s fee for MBBS is very cheap for medical students. Here, the universities are the cheapest in all over Asia. The fee compared to Indian medical colleges is very low with a superlative education. This is the reason Indian students migrate to Ukraine for medical studies.

According to recent data released by the Ukrainian government, there are 66,310 foreign students coming from 147 different countries, with the majority of foreign students coming from India. About 10,884 Indian students are studying in Ukraine currently.  According to Mohan Pandey, a Ukraine Medical Education Centre associate, many students studying medicine among all migrant students in Ukraine.  After China & Russia, Ukraine is the third most popular destination for Indian medical students.

India owns top-notch universities and colleges for medical education. Yet, not every student has the liability to study medicine here in India because of the limited number of seats and fierce competition for admission. Besides that, the reservation system for different categories makes it even harder to get in government medical colleges. Indian students attend medical universities in Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, and Odesa. After Russia unleashed its war in the Donbas, the Donetsk National Medical University had to move to the port city of Mariupol in 2015. The university has also retained its popularity among Indian students.

The advantage of studying in Ukraine is that the students get direct admissions in MBBS without hampering the quality of education. Ukraine has hardly any disadvantages in medical education.  All the renowned medical schools of Ukraine are over 75 years old and are completely taught in the English language.

Indian students believe that Ukrainian universities or colleges provide practical knowledge. And, all the lectures are held in the English language. Apart from studies, students feel safe as the security level is very high for students. With the population of 1.4-billion, being a doctor is among the most desirable jobs in India, so up to 1.2 million students apply every year to study medicine. However, only 56,000 seats are available in state medical colleges across the country. Students then look for education abroad, and Ukraine is among the top choices. As they offer affordable fees, there is no rule to pass any language exams such as IELTS or SAT, unlike other Western countries with the same level of education.

Ukraine conjoined the European education system, as well as the European academic research community. To meet European standards, they have adopted a new set of qualification requirements for medical education.

The country provides the right environment for students to be accomplished doctors of international standards. The Ukrainian universities are affiliated by all medical councils around the world. Students getting their medical degree from Ukraine are eligible to apply for International Licensing exams like USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), MCI Screening Test and all other licensing exams around the world.

Medical education in Ukraine is an important part of the national education system. Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it considered medical education in Ukraine one of the world’s best and its reputation still stays strong to attract thousands of foreign students each year. Its students, academics, and graduates have been known and appreciated worldwide.
